In the 46.0a1 (2015-12-19) Nightly build, there is a grey loading wheel that is sometimes displayed when switching between tabs or opening a new tab before any content is loaded in the tab.
When using the default theme for Windows 7, the tab background is partially transparent, as expected with the Aero Peek Windows 7 style. If there is a delay before the content of a newly opened tab begins to load, the transparent background will remain and the loading wheel will display before the background of the entire tab is turned white.
The length of time that the issue is displayed varies based on system speed and website response time. The issue occurs without any addons installed, although I used the New Tab Override addon to set my new tab page to a website that is slow at handling requests.
Since a GIF cannot have a transparent background, the default theme should be modified so that a white background is instantly loaded in the tab or so that the loading wheel image is an animated PNG file.
Note that this issue may also occur if the white color for the window background is modified by an installed theme or an operating system theme setting is using a color other than white.

I guess the image is not changed. We need an example to trigger this situation.
