User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:71.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/71.0
Steps to reproduce:
Using picture-in-picture mode on Windows 10.
Actual results:
In the screenshot: On the left are the built-in controls for playing a video file in-browser. On the right is the picture-in-picture interface for the same video. Here are some things to note about PIP:
Organization: Two of the three buttons have the same functionality (exiting PIP), and the colors used in the control icons are inconsistent. (light on dark vs dark on light)
Functionality: PIP only offers two controls, exiting and playing.
Expected results:
The current picture-in-picture controls could be updated for two reasons:
-
Organization: Removing one of the "exit PIP" buttons would resolve a redundancy with minimal effort. As for the color scheme, I would personally favor light on dark, to match the video controls on the left side of the screenshot.
-
Functionality: Volume and time sliders would be useful additions, saving users from having to go back to the tab where the video came from (which we assume they don't want to do). I don't know what kinds of controls are exposed to PIP by video players, so this might not be feasible. One idea could be to use the same interface as the in-browser video player (left on the screenshot) and hide whichever icons/features don't work for PIP. This would also save the trouble of having to maintain two different video control systems.
