User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Pull up the referenced URL, navigate down a little bit with the scroll bar, then try to navigate to the top of the page with the PgUp key. Usually, it does not respond as expected. So navigate to the top with the scroll bar. Then, hit PgDn. The screen flashes, scrolls down a bit, and then it is frozen there. Subsequent presses of the the PgDn key causes the screen to flash, but doesn't get you lower on the page. Sometimes, the Up and Down keyboard arrows exhibits a similar problem. Note that these keys work as expected when this page is viewed in Internet Explorer. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. See details section. 2. 3.
Works for me. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051201 Firefox/1.5 Are there more specific steps to reproduce? I couldn't get the PageUp/Down keys to not work.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051202 Firefox/1.5 ID:2005120203 WFM. Maybe an extension is messing things up?
Ria, are you confirming you see the problem too? Gavin, make sure you go to the URL I specified. Scroll down a little with the scroll tab. Then, hit PgUp. I get no functionality. Then, hit the up-arrow. Still nothing. Continue with the steps I outlined in my Detail section. Thanks. -- Ed

It still works fine for me. How are you loading the URL? How are you switching to that tab? Are you clicking anything in the page? Do you have any extensiosn that could be messing with focus (try safe mode, maybe)?
Good questions and comments. In response: I brought up Firefox in safe mode. Then, I tried navigating to the URL in two ways: clicking the "URL" link in this form (just under "QA Contact") or simply by copying and pasting the address in the address bar. No difference. The problem page comes up without opening another tab, so no switching is necessary. I am not clicking anything in the page. I scroll down a bit with the vertical scroll bar thumb tab (if that's the right term), then try scrolling back up with PgUp, and nothing happens. I scroll back up with the thumb tab, then try PgDn a couple of times, and get the screen flash problem. I'm also seeing this problem on other pages of other sites. I'll forward their URLs to you, too. Thanks.
Could be a Flash advertisement grabbing focus.
I am also experiencing exactly the same problems as described herein.
Same problem for me. Frequent, but apparently not reliably reproducable. I believe this started with FF 1.5.0.2. It happens on many pages: Page up/Page down navigation doesn't work at all, or does weird things. Sometimes, clicking in the text in the page restores functionality, but not always. I will try to disable extensions to see if it changes anything.
tried to use page up and down keys on 3 keyboradin current and last build of Firefox. All keys work with Safari and Explorer and in every other app. using Mac OSX 10.4.6
Aha, there is in fact a real annoying bug here! Focus starts off in the search text field. When you scroll down by dragging the scroll bar, focus is still in the search text field. For some reason pageup and pagedown actually drop down the history for that textbox (so you probably have to have a history in order to see this bug, which is why some people don't see it). Another bug is that if you aren't maximized, and scroll down just until the textbox is barely out of the window, and hit pagedown, the history popup will appear outside of the Mozilla browser window. On the other hand if you scroll far enough you don't even see the history popup so you have no idea what ate your keystrokes. We could fix both problems by scrolling to the textfield whenever the history popup is called to open. It needs to be on the screen so people know what's happening. Should be an easy fix if someone knows where that history popup code is.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6 I am experiencing this bug in Linux, also. As described in comment 11, I observed that focus started off in the search box at the top of the indicated web page. Initially, I had no previous search entries, and thus the field would not expand. For this reason, PgUp and PgDown appeared broken. Once I had performed a few searches on this site, as well as on Google, and returned to the reference URL, the search box would expand downward with these new search entries. As indicated in the original description and in comment 11, if the page is scrolled far enough down to place the search box out of view, the search history floats up near the top of the browser window, granted there are entires to display.

This is WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 I'm not sure if you need further confirmation, but this is happening to me too. I have no idea what's causing it because it was happening while I was running adblock, and it also happens when I via the referenced URL even in safemode. It affects not only that page in question, but any other tabs I have open afterwards. Upon restarting firefox, my pageup/down buttons react normally, at least for a while.

The original testcase is 404 now, and it sounds like we had trouble nailing down reliable steps to reproduce in any case.

Given the above, I'm going to resolve this as INCOMPLETE for now. (I hope that the issue has simply gone away, given that this bug report hasn't had much action for 8 years.)

But please feel free to reopen if you still see this (ideally with details / updated steps-to-reproduce).
