Details

When preforming a search from the search bar, the results page should not replace the contents of a tab if that tab is an app tab.

I thought this was already fixed. It works for me.
I think you mean address bar. If so, I can confirm it.
Forcing search results from the search bar to open in new tab if the current tab is an app tab was fixed in bug 579872 Forcing address (url) bar to open in a new tab is covered by bug 575561

Oops, I could have sworn that this just happened to me but now I can't reproduce. Sorry for the spam.
Is this the same issue as when i drag a marked text from a tabs webpage to the search bar at the upper, right side (not url bar)? With 3.1.6.13 (opensuse 11.3) it will overwrite the content of the active tab instead of opening a new tab
