Fennec/14.0a1 2012-04-12
Device: Motorola Droid 2(Android 2.3)/HTC Desire ( Android 2.2)/HTC Desire Z ( Android 2.3)/ Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android 2.3)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Nightly. Go in Settings and set "Play Plugins" to enable.
2. Go to cnn.com and wait for the page to load.
3. After the page loads tap on "Video" from the website menu to navigate to the video section.
4. Wait for the page to load.
Expected results:
All components are loaded.
Actual results:
The content from the top half of the page (mostly flash) never loads.
With the "Play plugins" setting set to "Tap to play" the content on the right side is partially loaded but the video never loads.
Other flash video (for e.g youtube) loads. I have left the device on cnn.com over an hour and the content was still not loaded.
Notes:
Issue is not reproducible on the Android Stock Browser where the page loads in about 2 minutes completely.

You need to restart after selecting "Enable".

The behavior has been seen throughout the hole day even after several restarts. It has been seen on different devices and at the same time the page loaded without any issues on the Android Browser.
There is a more content loaded when using "tap to play" but the video never loads after activating the plugin.

This looks a lot like bug 737707.
Does it work when Flash is enabled by default?

The same behavior is seen with the option enable or tap to play

HTC Incredible S, Android 2.3.4
I was running an old flash with the 4-23-2012 nightly, and it wasnt playing. however, once i realized flash had an update in Google Play and updated it, cnn video is playing now.
Adrian, please try once more to see if you can reproduce with the latest version of flash. If not, clear qawanted and resolve WFM.

I am able to reproduce the issue with the latest flash player on HTC Desire (Android 2.2) and Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android 2.3.4) on Nightly/14.0a1 2012-04-23. Here is a comparative video Android Browser vs Firefox Mobile: http://youtu.be/ZXhhyeOGjq0. You can see that on the Android Browser the page loads in ~30 seconds while on Firefox the page doesn't display anything after about 6 minutes.
After further investigation i can get the page to load after a reasonable time if I change to a different tab and return after which I scroll the page. Seeing this behavior makes me think that the content may be loaded but it's just never painted. I will add logs of the repaint maybe something helpful can be seen in them.

We backed out a couple of things that were impacting this. Can the STR be re-verified?

Issue is still reproducible on Nightly/15.0a1 2012-04-24.
Steps:
1. Set the plugin option to Enable and restart Fennec for the changes to take effect.
2. Go to cnn.com/video and wait for the page to load.
3. After a few minutes open a new tab and go to google.com.
4. Change to the cnn tab and scroll the page.
Actual result:
At step 2 the content never finishes loading no matter how much the user leaves the page loading without doing any other action.
At step 4 after scrolling the content (video only) eventually loads.
If the user changes to a different tab, returns and scrolls the page after the page finishes loading( less then 1 minute) the video is also loaded making me believe that the video actually loads in the background and is activated only after these steps.

This is probably the same issue as bug 737707 as this site also uses <object> to show the Flash videos.

I will try and roll back flash and get a reproducible scenario on HTC Incredible S.

I cant reproduce this anymore. I rolled adobe flash back from v11.1 to v10.2, and got cnn.com/video to play on my device. It took awhile for video to load (likely wifi issues), but it eventually played.
Adrian, can you reproduce this on other flash video sites?

I am using Flash 11.1.111.8 from March 28 2012 on an HTC Desire running Android 2.2 on the latest Nightly/15.0a1 2012-04-25.
The scenario from Comment 11 is reproducible on 2 different Wifi Networks and on the Vodafone RO 3G Network while the page loads without any issues on the Android Browser.

I can reproduce this too using Flash 11.1.111.8 on:
Nightly Fennec 15.0a1 (2012-04-25)
Device: HTC Desire Z
OS: Android 2.3.3

The videos load without any issues at dailymotion.com (after disabling the app from the page menu). Youtube.com presents other issues but the video loads - see Bug 749107.
I am seeing a similar issue as described in this bug at metacafe.com. The video is not displayed until scrolling the page.

Also reproducible on LG Optimus 2X (Android 2.2.2) using Nightly Fennec 15.0a1 (2012-04-25) and Flash 11.1.111.8.

Reproducible on Samsung Galaxy SII 2.3.4 using Nightly 15.0a1 2012-04-26
Also crash https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-baf4fe27-7fe7-4ae8-b27e-2cb902120426 (bug #731286) occurred when reproducing this issue

This is <s> not reproducible </s> on Samsung Galaxy Nexus ICS 4.0.2, with Flash v11.1.115.7. The page load correctly.

Can't be reproduced outside the softvision environment right now. Can it be confirmed this is not a local environment issue? If so, please re-nom.

Could it just be that the cnn.com/video is taking a long time to load?

I don't think in this case it takes longer to load because regardless of how long I leave the video to load after the page loads completely the moment I trigger a repaint of the page by going to a different tab + scrolling the page the video starts to be displayed.
Also the issue _is_ reproducible on Flash v11.1.111.8 (the latest Flash available on Android 2.x) and _is not_ reproducible on Flash v11.1.115.7 (latest on Android 4.0.2 - please see Comment 21)

I think this is basically the same issue as bug 737707.
Adrian can you please take a look at 737707 and see if you see the same thing for that bug?

The issue seem similar but on studio1290.com I can never get the player to play. On this bug I can get the video to play if I trigger a repaint by switching tabs and then returning and scrolling the page. The issues are similar but I am not sure that they are actually the same.
