770020 - quick filter bar stops working

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #732176 +++

I got into a state where quick filter bar wasn't working. 
- thunderbird was recently restarted, after having deleted a local test folder with thunderbird shut down
- first noticed in imap account filtering on something like A B AND C
- ctrl+shift+K fails to select field
- change text in filter field, no change to message list
- nothing in error console
- no search related addons installed
- not able to reproduce

don't know if related to bug 732176 - which I have not seen in a long time

let's put it on closeme 2012-10-15 - by then the version I reported will be in beta and perhaps someone else will have seen this (or not)

that said, I haven't seen this or bug 732176 recently
