cannot select mail address from drop down list

Details
Have mail configured to look from LDAP directory. As I use the type down
feature for mail, the drop-down list is displayed for matching addresses. But
when an address is selected from the list, this selection is changed to the
actual letters I typed in followed by the default domain name. For example I
typed in "foo" and all addresses starting with "foo" appears on the drop down.
I select "foobar@xyz.com". As I leave that address line, the address is changed
to "foo@default.com".
